This spring, a close friend of mine passed away unexpectedly. As is typical with grief, I went through many emotions: anger, sadness, regret, relief, bitterness, acceptance, and a lot of other feelings that are difficult to put into words. It’s easy to get lost in thoughts of everything you should have told them or how unfair life is. But these thoughts never left me feeling good – they always brought me to a place that felt dark and heavy.
In the moments when I was able to focus on how grateful I was for the opportunity to have had this friend in my life, the loss felt a little more bearable. When I chose to remember the good memories and take away the important lessons our friendship taught me, the darkness and heaviness began to lift.
It didn’t happen overnight, but eventually it began to feel like my story was no longer someone who lost a close a friend, but someone who had the chance to be friends with an incredible human being. Her passing reminded me of the fragility of life and how important it is to start each day with a grateful heart and be thankful for everything around me.
I’m a firm believer in the power of filling my space with positive reminders. I find that when things get stressful or something isn’t going the way I planned, if I keep positive words in places I frequent often, I’m reminded to put things into perspective. And I always walk away feeling better.
So my dear, if you too feel that you need a reminder to stay grateful, here is a free printable for you to hang in your space. I've included a few different file sizes as well (4x6, 5x7, 8x10, and social media image). I hope that it serves you as it has for me.
With a grateful heart,
